ASK AN ATHEIST - ASK A CHRISTIAN PANELS IN A CHURCH DOWNTOWN KC AT THE CROSSROADS! -two Fridays from now, April 20, 7pm at New Life Ministries.

DON'T MISS THIS! I haven't heard of an event like this before in the KC area. Vern Barnet will write a column about this on April 18, Wed, in the KC Star. I'm very excited about this unique idea so bring your questions and join us afterward for refreshments and more conversation! REMEMBER, WE WILL BE ON OUR BEST BEHAVIOR.

>>>ALSO, we will ask for $10 donations at the church (only if you can afford it) for a needy downtown public school. This will be through a nonreligious, secular organization that both atheists and Christians will donate to. This organization is listed below in the information from our site. I believe this is a very worthy cause so, if you can, PLEASE help us out. Take a look at DonorsChoose.org

NOTE: This will be a discussion not a debate format.
>>>You MUST RSVP at the eventbrite site (If you have already RSVPed at this site please go to eventbrite and RSVP, again): http://askanatheist.eventbrite.com/
Also we will ask, at the church, for $10 donations (only if you can afford it) to go to a needy public school. This will be through  which is a nonreligious, secular organization. http://www.donorschoose.org/ It's really a cool site, take a look.  We will announce which school after the event.
>>>Vern Barnet will write a column about this event which will be published April 18 (Wed) in the KC Star. Vern Barnet (b. 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska) is a Unitarian Universalist pastor and a weekly newspaper columnist on religious topics in The Kansas City Star. He is also the founder of the Kansas City (area) Interfaith Council.    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vern_Barnet <<<
We will have two panels, atheist and Christian, and a moderator ( Jesse will lead the atheist panel).  The event will last until 8:30 or so with social time (beverage and dessert) after that. There are six of us, 4 Christians -Bob, Jonathan, Gary & Minister Troy- and two atheists -Jesse & I - putting this together.
I think Gary explained this event very well: "Our event is designed to provide a forum for anyone to ask a Christian or an atheist something that they have always wanted to know but have not had the opportunity to ask."
The event will first kick off with how this project began with New Life Ministries, then a few questions for the panelists and turn the main focus to people from the audience stepping forward with their own questions.  We are still working on promotion details and a joint site where people will RSVP. This info will be coming very soon.
Usually about 175 members of New Life Ministries show up for Sunday morning services. They also work with other Christian groups and churches in the Crossroads area of downtown KC. It's a great historical area. I spent so much of my youth and other times of my life in the downtown area this makes me feel at home, so I'm excited to return with a project like this!
