I'm leaving for this from Olathe ACE Hardware at 7pm  today if anyone wants to carpool. Call me at[masked]  NOTE: this is not Westlake ACE on the east side of Olathe BUT Olathe ACE on 873 Parker (7Hwy) on the West side of Olathe close to the 56 Hwy intersection behind Hardies. Call if you need directions.

If anyone is interested to come to Powell Observatory for a meteor shower tomorrow, check this out. The weather seems to be projected clear for the shower. (AN IMPORTANT NOTICE - IT IS POWELL OBSERVATORY IN LOUSIBURG, KS, NOT AT POWELL GARDENS BY WARRENSBURG MO - map and directions at

The Geminids, which occur on a new moon night, should be a great shower.  With a rate of about 120 per hour and a radiant that rises by 7:00 PM, if the skies are clear we should see many, many, many more meteors than the Leonids earlier in November.

At the same time, the 30 inch telescope will also be open and if anyone is interested to come, you are more than welcome to join me. The scope will be open by 7:00 p.m. or so and a few people including me may run it for a few hours.

You can bring lawn chairs, blankets and even beach chairs that can turn into cots if you'd like to lay down and cover yourself with blankets watching meteors. The heated classroom and bathrooms will be open, but you will need to bring your own drinks, snacks, lawn chairs, sleeping bags and warm clothes.

Besides, after the world ends on the 21st, this will be your last chance for a meteor shower.  At least you won't owe any 2012 income tax.

The Astronomical Society is non profit, so a  donation of $6 is suggested but not required. Please, contact me [address removed] if you're interested to come.
