The ElePHPant In The Room: PHP From The Ground Up

First off, Congratulations to Derek Berdine who won a copy of Design Premium at our demo meeting last month! We expect to see some amazing work from you at our next demo night Derek!

We're going to start the new year off by expanding our palette a bit. We'll be meeting in room #254 where Christopher Swope who walked us through MySQL in November, will be expanding that knowledge and taking us into the realm of PHP.

PHP is short for PHP: Hypertext PreProcessor. It is an HTML-embedded scripting language. Much of its syntax is borrowed from C, Java and Perl with a couple of unique PHP-specific features thrown in. The goal of the language is to allow web developers to write dynamically generated pages quickly.

At the end of this talk you should be able to connect to a database, pass data back and forth, and be able to have a basic foundation to start generating your own dynamic websites.

Too bad these are monthly. These are great "fill in the gap" sessions for me. It was difficult to recall the great MySQL material I came to hear last year and apply it for this meetup. But that's a student issue vs. teacher. Just need to keep up the chops between sessions. Christopher is a great teacher. Very patient with questions.
