Our training moves up a notch with a relaxing 2D/1N camp to G. Angsi (825m), located half-way along the Seremban-Kuala Pilah trunk road at the Ulu Bendul Recreational Park.

http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/a/2/2/event_115595362.jpegOur day will start with a lazy drive to our destination, where we'll complete our registration and set up our tents. The afternoon is free for you to explore the grounds and/or to take a dip in the Sg Batang Terachi.

This is a very "civilised" camping trip in that there are wash rooms nearby AND you don't have to cook your meals if you do not want to; there is a row of eateries just outside the park, and it's entirely up to you how you plan your meal times.

But you WILL need tents to stay in for the night; or you could sleep in your car!

For those in training for the G12: G. Ulu Sepat trip (https://www.meetup.com/KLhiking/events/55351032/), this will be a good time to test out your gears: tents, sleeping mats, sleeping bag, stove & gas, cooking methods, recipes, food items etc ... even your apparels.

On the following day, we'll make the ascend to G. Angsi in our daypack. The mountain offers a variety of terrain: there are some steep parts, but they are quite short. The trail is quite wide , and the roots of the trees which line the trail are exposed all along the way, serving as a natural wooden stair case . The beginning of the trail is flat, until we cross a small stream. From there, it is all the way up.

A near-vertical sandstone wall awaits you near the summit - nicknamed the Merry Steps - so a pair of gloves will come in handy.

Make sure you bring enough water; as well as some snacks (like dried fruits and nuts), and a packed lunch as we are expected to be away from camp for about 8 hours.

A pair of good hiking shoes is necessary, preferably one with good grips. You may encounter some muddy soil, slippery steps, exposed roots and mossy rocks. If you have a first aid kit, do bring it along. You should have some of the common stuff like aspirin, bandages, minyak angin, plasters and heat rub; and yes - a whistle in case of emergencies.

The cost for this trip is RM10 (RM5 for camping and RM5 climbing fees). We have to book the camp spaces in advance and I have placed a booking for 40 people. I would appreciate it if those signing up for this trip can pay up before 20May. You should be able to get me at any of the 3 scheduled events before this date (i.e. 06, 12, 19 May).

We will arrange car-pooling through this forum and hope to get this settled before 30May. Carpool fees is to be arranged between the drivers and their respective passengers. FYI, the distance travelled (Meetup point to destination) is 80km each way and tolls are RM7.80 each way.

Although this is part of the training for those going to the G12: G. Ulu Sepat trip, it is open for all the rest to join in. For those keen to sign up for the Ulu Sepat trek, click here for more info and to RSVP: https://www.meetup.com/KLhiking/events/55351032/

There is a possibility for those who do not want to camp for the night to join us for the climb on 03Jun Sun ... it just needs someone (please initiate another Meetup event) to lead the group to arrive at Ulu Bendul at 0730 03Jun Sun. It is about an hour's drive (clear traffic from the Meetup point to Ulu Bendul via LEKAS), so you will need to leave KL preferably by 0615 latest; earlier if you wish to have breakfast en-route.

KT Wong has volunteered to lead the day hikers from KL for the Sun 03Jun hike to G. Angsi. You are requested to make your way to the "Meeting point ... right after the 2nd toll (11th mile) [of the Grand Saga Cheras-Kajang Highway] at 6.00 am sharp. Please note that there are no collection anymore at this toll plaza although the booths are still there."
