About us

Hiking, cycling, camping, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing...we do it all!

OARS is a terrific place for adults of all ages who enjoy social connection and keeping physically active while experiencing the great outdoors.

Our winter calendar includes hikes, urban walks, snow shoeing and downhill skiing. In the spring, summer and fall, members enjoy a weekly golf event, kayaking, camping, cycling and hiking.

The variety and frequency of events depends on members to both participate in scheduled events and share the outdoor experiences they enjoy with others by becoming event organizers.

Event descriptions include any fees, the equipment required to participate with comfort and safety, and guidelines on the level of fitness and endurance needed to enjoy the event as intended by the organizer.

OARS is one of three groups under the subscription of Gayle K. The other groups are Finer Things and Get Out & Get Social - 50 plus. Each group has a main organizer as follows:

  • OARS - Karen G.
  • Finer Things - Cameron B.
  • Get Out & Get Social - 50 plus - Judy W.

All three groups are private and only members can see our calendars and membership.

Get Out & Get Social is restricted to adults over 50 years of age and is run independently by Judy W.

OARS and Finer Things are open to adults of all ages and we are offering a two for one annual fee of $5. We will send out a notification to members when the fee is due along with the details on how to pay it.

Please note: Paying the annual fee is a requirement and membership will be cancelled before the annual subscription renewal in October for those who have not paid.

Interested in joining OARS? Click on the "Join Us" button and complete the profile questions.

Important: in respect of the privacy and safety of ALL members, you will be required to use your first name and a photograph of yourself showing your face in order to be approved for membership. (You may add a last name or last initial if you feel this will help identify you more effectively.)

Be sure to review the settings available to you to control how much of your profile is visible to others and to control the frequency and type of messages you can receive from organizers, fellow members and the MeetUp application.
