#KCELon: An Evening with Mike Burrows

Mike (twitter: @asplake) is UK Director of David J Anderson & Associates and the Director of Training Programs at LeanKanban Inc. He blogs at positiveincline.com and is currently writing a book, Kanban from the Inside. Mike's background is in software development, a former programmer, global development manager and IT Director in the investment banking and energy risk management industries. Now he provides training, consultancy, coaching and interim management around Kanban as well as maintaining the training curriculum on behalf of the Kanban training community globally.

Session Overview

What (really) is Kanban, and how does it work at scale? In this, we look at Kanban via its values system and summarise what it can achieve organisationally via its sustainability, service orientation and survivability "agendas".

I didn't quite get it. Maybe you need to be more into kanban than I am, though it didn't seem like I should've needed to be. Doing the exercise first was the wrong way round to do it.

I'm with you Russell. It seems a very fluid philosophy that is open to personal interpretation. Plenty of, "hummm, yes, you could see it that way I guess". Little demonstrable justification to the defined answers. Or am I missing something?

I've applied very successfully kanban to a chaotic "agile" (or better, fragile) team.... We make the product team very happy providing accurate estimations and planning weekly releases... I've read few books about kanban but still didn't get the purpose of that exercise neither...

I enjoyed the quick exercises and brief discussions. I would have liked to hear more real world experiences of Kanban than abstract generalizations, but I got some of that in post-preso discussions with Mike, Nada, Jinn and a few others. It's very helpful as I learn about Kanban and how Scrum is different. Have a good weekend and until next time...!
