We launch into Follins Pond, do a short paddle to a culvert that brings us into Mill Pond. We made it through the culvert a couple of times last summer and the previous summer to get from Follins Pond into Mill Pond...and back. Follins Pond is lined with houses. Mill Pond is beautiful...almost no houses.

To get through the culvert, there has to be no flow against you..to allow you to move your boat with your hands on the ceiling and sides of the culvert. So, the timing for our going in BOTH directions through the culvert is critical. I am posting this while I am in Florida and my notes are on the Cape, concerning when we should launch after the high tide at the mouth of Bass River. I think it was 1 1/2 to 2 hours after HT in South Yarmouth. So, I may slightly change the launch time when I get home.

I wanted to post 3 paddles during the second week in May because surely one of them will be cancelled by lovely Cape Cod May weather. If it is cancelled, we could go on May 21.

We will launch from the Follins Pond Rd IN DENNIS, OFF MAYFAIR Rd.

There is a great public launch at the end of Follins Pond Rd, into Follins Pond in Dennis, off Mayfair Rd. There is ample parking, no sticker required and a very easy launch.

In a GPS or mapping program, be careful to enter FOLLINS POND RD, DENNIS.

DIRECTIONS TO THE DENNIS LOCATION: From Rt 6, coming from the west, take Ex 8. Go south on Station Ave a few hundred feet to the stop light. Go left onto Whites Path; drive 1.5mile. Take left at the stop sign onto N.Main which becomes N.Dennis Rd and go 1.8 mile to the first stop sign at a wide open intersection. Go right onto Setucket, pass 4 streets on the right and then take the fork to the right to get on Mayfair Rd. After the fork, Follins Pond Rd. is the 14th street on your right and is just under 1 mile from the fork.

Coming from the east on Rt 6, it would be shorter to get off at Exit 9, Rt. 134, and go north on 134 a short distance. Take left onto Mayfair Rd at the "Mayfair Boat Yard" sign on the white arrow on your left. Drive Mayfair Rd., passing Follins Bay Rd and Norseman's Beach and take the next left on Follins Pond Rd. (one street is Follins Bay, but you want Follins Pond)
