I have never done this paddle. I do not know anyone who has done this paddle. And I don't know anything about this paddle. That said....
We'll launch at the arrow above from an Orleans town landing on Snow Shore Rd. It is a paved boat ramp, but there is nice sand next to the ramp. Orleans info says there are 12 parking places, but when Beth and I went to look at this launch last week, it looked more like 10 places. There is nothing posted about stickers being required and there is a strip of road leading into the parking area that seems to have legal parking on one side.
High tide in the outer Nauset area is about 9:44 AM. There probably won't be many mud flats exposed where shorebirds feed, but there will be plenty of water so that we do not get stuck out there. It is probably the safest tide for a paddle with which I have no experience
We'll head south/southeast toward The Horn and try to get to Inlet Marsh, home to colonies of Terns and Laughing Gulls. If the tide is right, we may be able to get out and take a break, given that we do not disturb any birds.
This would be a bad paddle in high winds, so wind or possible lightning will cancel.
DIRECTIONS: From the Orleans Rotary..Take Rt 28 off the rotary and go to stop light at Main St. Take left on Main. Left on Tonset Rd. Keep right on Hopkins Lane. Left on Brick Hill. Keep right at fork on Champlain Rd. Turn right on Smugglers Path. Take left on Show Shore Rd.
Please click on the map provided by google on this page. Leave lots of time to get lost. We'll be in the water and moving at 10:00. If you have a hand held GPS. please bring it...or GPS on your phone. I will lay down a track on my GPS, but I don't have MA maps loaded.
