Paddle Mashpee River, Mashpee
Details
Join us as we kayak the Mashpee River in Mashpee. The Mashpee River encompasses three distinct habitats including freshwater, brackish and saltwater and is surrounded by the Mashpee Woodlands Conservation Area. Nesting marsh wrens and red winged blackbirds are plentiful along the shoreline and in surrounding marsh. Ospreys can be seen fishing overhead. My note on this paddle the first time I went there was "the most beautiful paddle yet".
High tide in Popponesset Bay is 6:36 AM, so we need to launch by 9:00 and may not have quite enough water to make it all the way up the river....but this date works for some members.
DIRECTIONS: Meet at town landing on Mashpee Neck Rd. From US 6, take exit 5. Drive on MA 149 south, and then turn right onto MA 28 north. Go 3.5 miles and turn left onto Orchard Road. Drive another 0.5 mile and turn right onto Quinaquisset Ave. A quick left will take you onto Mashpee Neck Rd; it’s 1.5 miles to the town landing parking area...at the very end of the road. Do not be tempted to take a right prior to the end of the road.
Parking stickers are required at this landing, but vehicles without stickers can unload kayaks at the ramp and then park a short walk up the road...beyond the NO PARKING WITHOUT PERMIT signs.
Leave enough time to travel on congested roads, unload and get in the water by 9:00 AM. We'll launch no later than 9:00.
It's a beautiful paddle. See you there.
