Brooklyn has so much creative and intellectual energy, but one thing I've been starving for since moving here is good debate and discussion on world affairs. Through this group I aim to change that.
What I envision this group being, at first, is a forum for casual discussion--perhaps at a coffee shop, bar, or elsewhere--on American foreign policy and/or general topics in international relations. This, for example, could mean reading a collection of articles prior to the discussion, or, simply having an organic talk without any predetermined topic(s).
I currently edit a political news website; my primary duties being the editing and management of the world affairs sister website. As this group grows, I could see us inviting interesting speakers--journalists, academics, writers and so on--to speak at our meetings and converse.
This is a nonpartisan group. All parties, ideologies and persuasions welcome. I do however have some criteria for joining: please be either working or studying in the field(s) of journalism, foreign policy, international relations and/or political science (graduate students welcome; sorry, undergrads).
A Brooklyn address will not be required, but I envision most of the gatherings happening in Kings County (hence the name!).
If you want to know more, or if you have any suggestions or questions, please, feel free to shoot me a line. Also feel free to pass this group's existence on to friends, co-workers or colleagues of interest.
I look forward to conversing with you!
