Who We Are

We are a group of diverse and dedicated volunteers who bring tennis to at-risk children in public housing communities in Brooklyn.

What We Do

Every Saturday from 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM, May through September, we bring tennis to kids by setting up temporary tennis courts within their communities. Currently, we operate in five housing developments: Marcy, Sumner, Lafayette Gardens, Brevoort, and Tompkins.

Each community comprises a tennis "club", with its own team jersey and volunteer group. At the end of each season, we hold a Youth Tennis Jamboree, a competition for all of the tennis clubs. We give out T-shirts, award trophies, blast music, and serve food!

In addition to teaching tennis, we engage our students through discussions about communication, healthy eating, school, values, and the environment. We also take our students on unique field trips to educational sites throughout New York City.

We Have Fun, Too!

We help children, have fun, and make friends! We organize year-round social events for our volunteers, including happy hours, hitting sessions at local tennis clubs, coffee tastings, dinners, and more.

Join Us

We will return to bringing tennis to the kids in Spring 2016. Register on our website: to learn about training, the 2016 season timeline, social events, and more. Tennis experience is helpful but not required to volunteer with us.

About Kings County Tennis League

Kings County Tennis League (KCTL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to using tennis as a vehicle for youth development and community building in Brooklyn's public housing communities. KCTL was founded in 2010 by Michael McCasland, a forensic scientist who lived in the neighborhood and saw the unused tennis court at Marcy Houses as an opportunity for children. Today, KCTL reaches over 200 children ages five through 15 with the help of approximately 100 volunteers.
