Silly me... thought a course about hiking in the Olympics would actually contain content that covered the Olympics!!!! If you want a class on how to pack your daypack this is it. YAWN.

When the first line of event description read "Intro to hiking the Olympics" what I was expecting was a discussion in hiking the ONP, and surrounding areas. Info such as can you mtn bike that road that was washed out years ago - or is it too overgrown now? Stay out of area X - it was logged this winter. Can trail Z be done in a day hikes. Those sorts of gems that you get by talking to people who gone ahead of you. Yes, I could probably find all that online or by calling the ranger station. Please don't be offended, basic "what are the 10 essentials" education is fine and all, and I'm glad that others benefitted from it. But not an hour and half of it, and not listening to someone read it from a script. I kept thinking "I raced from the ferry - on an empty stomach - after a long work day for this?" My attitude is better now, I've had dinner. :-)

Sorry it wasn't what you were looking for, and what you describe above is very different from what I intended. It was always my intention to provide very "basic" information to people new to hiking. Next time I'll try to be more clear in the description so that others like yourself won't find themselves where they don't want to be. Thanks for the feedback. It will help me improve.
