Day Hike the Heather Park Trail to Heather Pass

Monday, November 11th - Hike the Mount Angeles (a.k.a. the Heather Park Trail) from Heart of the Hills to 1st Peak. This is about a 9.3 mile, 3500 foot gain hike on well maintained tread.  We may encounter a bit of snow near the top, so micro spikes are recommended.  If we get to serious snow we turn around! Meet at the Hood Canal bridge at 7:30 A.M.   Contact Doug Savage [masked]) for further details!

Hi all. I will NOT need to carpool from Olympia AND I will not be on the hike. No problems. A friend and are just taking a more local jaunt up Ellinor instead. The Heather Park trail should be great and I expect you all will have a great time.

    November 10, 2013

  • Doug S.

Just did Mt Ellinor yesterday. My guess is there will be 6" to 12" of snow at the pass. Gaitors would be a good addition to the pack!

We may split into 2 groups to make the park happy, one will go up Heather Park, the other towards Lake Angeles. Both leave from the save parking lot!

Sounds good. Doug, I am on a waiting list. What's the word?

      November 9, 2013

  • Paul M.

I would be happy to go on my own to open up a spot for someone on the waiting list

Hey Doug, thought about doing the loop? Not sure about the snow though. I'd be coming from Olympia too and interested in carpooling from there.

    November 8, 2013

    • Doug S.

The loop is about 15 miles with 5500 foot of elevation. With some snow on the route there probably will not be enough time.

Never done it with snow. Done the 13 mile look a couple time snowless. I agree snow would really slow parts of it down. Snow level would be critical.

      November 8, 2013

  • Paul M.

Ah, just saw Doug's response and aside from the snow fall / freezing level, it's more about how much snow is up on top, so ya, may not be enough time if couple feet of snow

    November 8, 2013

  • Paul M.

I'd love to do the loop if Doug is OK with it, up the heather pass route and back down the Lake Angeles trail, or other way. Snow level via reports are at 3,500 but supposed to be warming up and 4,000 tonight, and 6,500 feet by Sunday night n Monday.

    November 8, 2013

  • Doug T

Since there is a waiting list. Perhaps the Wait List people could launch towards Lake Angeles.

Kathy, I’m coming from Oly, as well. Do you still have room in the car?

      November 6, 2013

  • Ruth

Hi, I am from Olympia and was wondering if there is a possible meeting point on the peninsula where I could join the carpool. I think a few years ago I met Doug at Fat Smitties... Would that be an option?

    November 6, 2013

    • Phil C

Ruth: Kathy is coming from Oly as well ...

      November 6, 2013

    • Lothario

I'm in Tacoma maybe we can work something out. The carpool is at the park and ride on the east side of the hood canal bridge

      November 6, 2013

  • Lothario

Can we set a carpool from the bridge and is the meet up spot the pull off spot on the west side of the bridge

    November 5, 2013

    • Phil C

      East end Park & Ride

      November 5, 2013

    • Doug T

Yep, the East End is a park and ride.
