Hacker Journalism: Opportunities at the Intersection of Code and Content

Join the Knight Lab and special guests from National Public Radio, Medill and McCormick to learn more about the work computer scientists do in journalism and media.

In a nutshell, hacker journalists use the skills of computer scientists (code, familiarity with data, ingenuity, etc.) to uncover truths about the world and report them. They work in newsrooms around the country to help find, report, and deliver the news.

We'll hear from:

Brian Boyer about his recent work as news applications editor for NPR and previously as a developer for the Chicago Tribune,

Larry Birnbaum, Knight Lab staff and student fellows about opportunities to build cool tools for journalists. Plus, hear about some recent Lab projects, and

Rich Gordon who will discuss scholarships available to computer science students to earn a master's degree in journalism at Medill.
