This is a great opportunity to get some local knowledge about the best places to kayak and canoe in your area. There may also be presentations from special guests about trips to exotic locations.

Thanks for the reschedule. It was not Andrew's fault at all. Doing it as an open forum was a great idea as we all did learn from each other. Thank you Andrew for showing me some places on the adirondack map. You were honest with us and tried to make the best of the situation.

My sincerest apologies for the way this clinic was handled. I have emailed everyone who attended this clinic with further information. I can assure you this is not how our clinics are normally run (as many of you know). I appreciate your feedback and will be making sure this does not happen again. We will be re-scheduling this clinic in the near future with the proper handouts, maps and share with you the great locations the capital region has to offer.

Hey there. I want to apologize for being such a disappointment. Kayaking is not my area of expertise and I was put on the spot when I arrived for my shift. I had about 30-45 minutes notice and did the best I could with a packed house. This is by no means an excuse, just my side of the story.

If it had been a topic like backpacking essentials, outdoor electronics, knots, adventure technology, navigation with map and compass, gps navigation, stargazing, cold weather camping, or several others, things would have gone very differently. I have taught these clinics many times and have the knowledge, experience, and materials to back it up. I felt that with the little preparation I had, that an open forum would be the best option. It was my hope that even one person could walk away having learned one new spot to go kayaking. I also opted to be 100% honest about my lack of experience; I am not looking to pass myself off as something I'm not. I'll be sure to refuse any request to lead a clinic that I'm n

I can certainly vouch for Andrew's expertise on electronic devices used for outdoor activity and his knowledge about many other topics you ALL would like to partake in. I can totally understand his lack of preparation when he was given so little time-just 30 minutes!!! It's like sub teaching for biology with earth science plans! Yikes-not his fault! I hope now that you all know the skivvy, you understand HIS dilema!

Have to agree with all the comments. Very disappointing, especially since we all knew more than the presenter.

Hi, I was the presenter at the clinic. I'm sorry it was not what you were expecting. I've made a longer post above explaining the circumstances of that night.

This was the first clinic that I have attended. I will certainly think twice before ever signing up for one again. I too expected handouts and recommendations from an experienced paddler. It was nice meeting others and sharing "great places" but it was an effort to get there after work and I expected something more. It should have been cancelled and rescheduled when it was clear that they did not have an experienced paddler to lead it. I tried to submit without hitting a star but it cannot be submitted"starless".

Too bad we can't rate this less than one star. LL Bean is too good of a company to allow this too happen. We should have spoken to the store manager, but I just we we all too frustrated and annoyed

I know LLBean has some very knowledgeable kayakers! Why would a clinic be scheduled and not have someone with expertise to lead it? I don't know any more about great places to kayak than I did yesterday. I could have just used google!

This was a complete waste of time, energy and gas! Unfortunately there was a decent turnout of about a dozen people. However the "presenter" (and I use that term loosely), began by telling us that he had very little experience paddling and had only been to tow places, so he thought he would open it up as a forum! There were several looks of shock from people who thought they would be gaining knowledge and perhaps some hand outs. He then grabbed some scrap paper and began jotting down some to the suggestions the participants offered from their own experiences. It was like we were the presenters! I was so disappointed to waste my evening. Several people including myself left with in the first 10 minutes. I won't be attending any more clinics as this is the second one I have gone to that was not at all what it was billed to be.

I was "added" at 6:41 PM from waitlist. I never expected to be added that late. I was unable to attend on such short notice. I wish I could get a list of those GREAT PLACES though! : (
