AgileSoCal Meeting - Wed 10/16 6:00 PM - Hands-On Unit Testing - Llewellyn Falco

Paul H.
AgileLogic
Fullerton, CA
Post #: 47

For our regularly scheduled October 16 meeting, we welcome back another popular agilist and presenter - Llewellyn Falco!

Llewellyn is a leading expert in the area of agile technical practices, and this month he takes us on a hands-on journey to better unit testing.

IMPORTANT! This is a hands-on workshop, where the attendees solve unit-testing puzzles. We need attendees to BRING THEIR LAPTOPS (or come with a pair partner or two who has one).

This workshop DOES NOT require expert coding skills, so don't be scared off if you're not a full-time developer -- it's a great way for non-technical folks to learn more about unit testing!

When: Wednesday, October 16th <-- Back to our usual 3rd Wednesday!
Networking and food, 6:00 PM.
Activities start, 6:30 PM.

***** Always free, but YOU MUST RSVP to agilesocal@gmail.com !!! *****

Hands-on Workshop for Better Unit Testing

Bring your laptop to try out koans (puzzles for learning). A koan is a set of failing unit tests. Learning by doing with koan puzzles is fun, engaging, and produces remarkably quick results. Koans can be used to learn a variety of programming skills including languages and APIs.

This session will challenge you in group and individual settings to complete these puzzles to get the unit tests to pass. After you decode the puzzle, we will reflect on what and how you have learned. Finally we will look into how to create your own koans for your particular testing needs.

This is a unique session that will explore the use of the open source library Approval Tests to facilitate better unit testing verification in a collaborative fun workshop.
