Automating the Hadoop Stack

Hadoop is helping to solve many Big Data problems through massive distributed processing across many machines.
This can be a challenge for operations departments to provision, install, configure, scale and maintain a large cluster.  We will be going over how Shopzilla has automated this process operationally making a 5 node cluster the same as a 500 node cluster.

Here is the link to the video. The beginning was cutoff unfortunately (our a/v person wasn't able to make it unfortunately), but not too much of the technical portion of the content was lost.

Is Hadoop a competing platform against MongoDB or a platform that complements MongoDB.

On the other hand, Hadoop's most common use would be to optimize offline (not OLTP) processing of those problems that can benefit from Divide & Conquer strategy for extremely large data-sets.

Hey Sako, if you Google the concept of Polyglot solutions you'll find that in the NoSQL era more than one technology is the way forward to solve your problems, rather than a one size fits all. Hadoop is a suite of technologies that includes a NoSQL database (HBase) as well as a large scale data processing framework (MapReduce) with supporting technologies (Pig, Hive etc.).
