What we’re about
LA Makerspace is a non-profit, family-friendly community for makers, tinkerers, and DIYers of all ages to create and collaborate.
LAM was founded in 2012 by Tara Tiger Brown, a technology expert; Jeff Geoffray, a filmmaker; and Ariel Levi Simons, a science educator. In each of their fields, Brown, Geoffray, and Simons observed a need for experiential learning—not just for children, but for people of all ages. This founding group quickly developed into a community of makers focused on learning by doing.
Starting in 2014, LA Makerspace became the primary partner for STEAM education of the Los Angeles Public Library system, and then began working with the County system as well, for a total of 165 branches. We do workshops in Robotics, Wearable Electronics, Coding with Scratch, Coding with Minecraft, and Stop Motion Animation for thousands of kids a year!
Recently we became a division of the rad Two Bit Circus Foundation, which has allowed us to 10x our awesome.
