Article in LA Times - 8/2/12

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm finally catching up after a hectic August.

My husband and I saw this shop when it was covered in plywood. It was part of a tour Charles Phoenix does of downtown L.A. (highly recommended, BTW!). I'm thrilled that the plywood has been removed. Let's hope Mr. Aslan is able to follow-through on his plans.

For those of you who love tile--and Batchelder tile, in particular--I enthusiastically recommend that you visit the lobby of the Fine Arts building in downtown L.A. at 811 7th St., just east of Flower. The lobby is completely covered in Batchelder tiles, very similar to those depicted in the article below. There's a guard in the Fine Arts building, but sometimes s/he will let visitors go up to the mezzanine, which is also spectacular. It's one of our favorite places to take visitors and people who don't know downtown L.A. For more information, see

By the way - be sure to click on the smaller photo that's captioned: "Photos: Chocolate Shop" (it'sjust below the larger one) to see more of photos. The tile work is amazing!

Hello Everyone,
For any  members who might be interested in some of the historical architectural features of some of the buildings in the downtown LA area - specifically, interior tiles, and in case you might not have seen it, there is an interesting article in today's LA Times about a historical feature that was recently uncovered in a building on 6th street.
best to all
