Presentation: Cloud Security – Money Talks, Improving Security as a Customer
Presentation Summary
There’s no denying the value that the Cloud brings to IT departments of all sizes – scalability, efficiency, and the opportunity to access resources that may otherwise be unavailable or infeasible to own directly. However, there is also no denying that the rise of the Cloud has led to fear, uncertainty, and doubt when it comes to understanding what we are doing to secure it. The Cloud continues to connect us all, but too often the conversation about what is necessary to protect the transfer and access of data between customers and providers is minimized or simply ignored. This is a problem.
By spending time understanding the methods of cloud deployment, we can better prepare how we, as customers of cloud services, should approach the security conversation. By discussing recent and past breaches, as well as digging into some big, easy to understand yet very dangerous technical traps, we can understand the reasons for directing this conversation. And by understanding the implications of this kind of breach, we can ultimately use our position as customers (i.e. why service providers exist) to drive the security conversation and affect change.
