If y'all are not familiar with what this conference is about, check out this link: http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e8ygft4b73fe4785&llr=z7h5t5cab But, in a nutshell, here's my explanation.
As you know, the Church has never officially made any statements as to where "The Promised Land" of the Book of Mormon truly is. As a result, there are two, prominent schools of thought, established by archeologists and scholars (Mormon & Non-Mormon). One theory is that it occurred in South & Central America, and the Mayan culture is a remnant of the Lamanites. The second hypothesis is that the lands of the Book of Mormon are here on the American continent, and that the Hopewell Indians of Ohio, known as “the mound builders” are the ancestors of the Lamanite civilization. This is known as the “Heartland Model”. This conference is presented by the supporters of this premise. A personal note: I have attended a similar, yet more condensed presentation and I was amazed at the similarities between this American Indian culture and the accounts and descriptions in the Book of Mormon. I am a proud "Heartlander".

I am excited to be able to attend this conference and I wanted to extend the invitation to y’all. It is so much more enjoyable to learn something with others, then to be able to discuss and share your ideas and impressions afterwards, don’t you think?
The conference costs $30 for the two days. If you do decide to register and attend, please RSVP to this Meetup. We can possibly organize carpools and I will arrive at the conference early and reserve a block of seats, so we can all sit together. Register early as it fills up fast.
I hope y’all are as excited about this Meetup as I am. If only one other person shows up that I can talk to, I’ll be happy!
