Welcome to the Lotus in the Desert Meditation meetup group (LITDM).  This group is an extension of the Lotus in the Desert sangha (LITD or LITDS), a peer-lead group of people in Las Vegas practicing in the Buddhist tradition by focusing on Vipassana and Insight Meditation.

Meditation was one of the fundamentals practiced and taught by the Buddha about 2,500 years ago; however, these practices are extremely relevant in today’s lifestyles in that they offer insights into ourselves, how we react and interact with others, and the interrelations of all being and things.  Life is not easy, and one of the four noble truths identified by the Buddha is that there is suffering, and another noble truth is that there are ways to reduce suffering.  Suffering occurs within ourselves and in others, and sometimes it is acute but at other times it subtle.  To truly and clearly see the suffering, meditation provides the insight into the causes of suffering, and typically how to work with it and take actions to alleviate it.  Meditation and Buddhist practices provide the elements to develop a clear mind, and a framework for out thoughts, words, deeds, and lifestyle.  We practice individually because it is up to each person to develop as well and as far as they can, but we also practice as a group (a sangha) that helps provide support to each of the members.  The LITDS was founded to offer and develop a conducive and safe environment for individuals to explore becoming a better being, and some will strive to become enlightened.

This meetup site is a portal to the activities and events of the LITDS.  The site is intended to be a forum for communication, so please visit it often to find out what will be happening and to share ideas with other sangha members.  When you identify an event that you would like to participate in, please RSVP.  Often, types of responses help us better understand the logistics of an event.  Additionally, you will be able to offer comments and discussion threads.

Again, welcome to the LITDM meetup group.
