Fall Foliage Hike on Wachusett Mountain

Join LL Bean Dedham for a Fall Foliage mountain hike of Wachusett Mountain! Enjoy the colors of fall on this vigorous, rugged hike while getting a great workout. On a clear day, we will be treated to beautiful panoramic views looking toward Mount Greylock to the west, Monadnock and New Hampshire to the North, and even the city of Boston to the southeast! We will meet at the ski area parking lot, and will follow the Balance Rock Trail and Old Indian Trail to the summit.

Meet At: Ski Area Parking Lot, GPS Location: 41 Mile Hill Road, Westminster, MA 01473

Suggested gear and clothing are: comfortable shoes or boots for hiking, merino wool or synthetic blend socks (avoid cotton), comfortable clothing appropriate for the day's weather such as fleece, windbreaker or rain shell, sunscreen, and bug spray. Trekking poles or walking stick are also helpful.

Lastly, be sure to bring enough water to stay hydrated (2-3 liters of water is ideal), and some snacks to have along the way and on the summit.

Thanks again folks for an excellent hike! We got to enjoy some wonderful weather, met a couple of (mountain) goats and wildlife, and see some fantastic views! I will be posting the pictures either later today or tomorrow. Once again, thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you on another outing soon!

So the big hike is tomorrow! Over the past week or two, we had several people added from the Waiting List. Please make note if you were moved from the Waiting List to the "Going" list, and be sure to update your RSVP you are unable to attend. FYI that when coming from the Boston area heading west, you will pass a couple of overflow ski parking lots. We will be parked at the main lot where the lodge is located. I am going to try to park in or near section 5, and will be driving a blue HONDA Accord.

Please try to arrive 15 minutes early to ensure that we start on time at 9AM.

Any updates from me will be posted on here in the morning, and I will post my cell in the AM as well in case anyone needs to reach me due to running late/lost and etc.

As always, feel free to message me if you should have any questions, and we look forward to seeing you all in the AM!

Hi Catherine, I'm estimating the duration of the hike to be a roughly 4 hour hike, give or take. That includes some time relaxing on the summit, enjoying the view (if weather allows views, which the current forecast is favorable). (Please note the duration is an estimate.)

Thanks Matt, your estimate is much appreciated.

Hey folks, so we're just shy of a week away from our first Autumn Wachusett hike. Just a reminder to check if you are RSVP'd as "Attending" this outing, please ensure that you are in fact able to come. We had a few folks who were on the list change their RSVP's to "no", so folks from the Waiting List were inserted on a first come, first serve basis. So if this is the case, just double check that you can make it so no one misses out. As always, message me if you have any questions, and we'll see you on Saturday!

In light of the large number of people signed up on the Waiting List for this hike, we've added another Wachusett Hike for Sunday, 10/6 at 10AM. The hike will be the same route as this one. It is my hope that this will enable those of you that hoped to do this hike, to do so the following week. Please view the hike and RSVP there if interested!

Matt, looks like this hike is hugely popular and the foliage will be even better in October. How about a repeat?

Hi Meri, I'm with ya there! I have been looking into adding a second date so more folks can be involved. Just finalizing the plans, so stay tuned... Matt

Meri, Ask and you shall receive! If you're available, we've added one more Wachusett hike for 10/6. Just a heads-up as there is a limit of spots....

Hey folks, well we're only a few days into September, and autumn is already in the air!! In light of this, it occurred to me that we are just about 3 weeks away from our planned Wachusett hike for 9/28. Just a friendly reminder that if you have RSVP'd for this outing and find that you can NOT ATTEND, please be considerate of your fellow hikers and change your RSVP accordingly. As you can see, we have a sizable waiting list for this hike, and I would like to ensure that we don't have any no shows while someone on the waiting list could have attended. I'll send a another reminder as we get closer. Thanks again, and looking forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks!
