Late Summer Sunset/Dark of the Moon Paddle on the Neponset Reservoir!

Bring your kayak or canoe and join L.L. Bean Mansfield on Friday September 6th for our first sunset paddle on the Neponset Reservoir. Access to the Neponset Reservoir has been difficult due to a lack of readily available public access. In talking with some locals they pointed me to access thru a conservation easement. We’ll plan on meeting at 5:30PM adjacent to 49 Edwards Road off of Beach Street. There is plenty of parking along Edwards Road and a short walk to a wooded put-in. Sunset on this day is at 7:12PM. We won’t see any moon this evening because it’s just past its new phase of September: Thursday, the day before. Two hours should give us plenty of time on this evening outing to paddle much of the reservoir while we wait for the approaching sunset. Please bring snacks and beverages of your choice (non-alcohol please) because we’ll raft up and situate our boats to view the setting sun. After the sun slips below the horizon we’ll finish up our paddle in the evening twilight. Bring a headlamp or flashlight to use while loading your boat afterwards. Please arrive on time so we can get everyone set and on the water before 5:45PM. This paddle should run about 2 hours and cover between 2 to 3 miles in distance.
ALL ATENDEES MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN KAYAK/CANOE, PADDLES and LIFE JACKETS (PFD).
The minimum age for attending is 8 (Children 8-15 yrs must have a participating adult with them, 16-17 yrs must have a parent/guardian sign participant agreement but do not need to attend).
Please dress appropriately for weather conditions. Dressing in layers works best.
Wear appropriate footwear for kayaking/canoeing.
Please bring water, snacks and any personal medicines and gear you may need as well. These outings are free but you are responsible to have everything you need.
A camera and/or binoculars are always a welcome addition. Insect repellent is a must.
Please arrive on time so we can get everyone on the water by 5:45PM.
