L.L. Bean Outing Club: Hike The Herrick Trail in Sherman, CT

Details

Fall Hikes are back! Join us for a trip at the Naromi Land Trust along the Herrick Trail in Sherman, CT.

This moderately steep hike winds through oak/hemlock woodlands from Evans Hill Road and connects to the Sherman portion of the AT. Along the way, Amy’s Overlook and the Housatonic overlook provide stunning views of the Housatonic River Valley.

The trail crosses several small stream courses and skirts the edge of a large vernal pool. Watch for forest interior birds such as worm-eating warblers and ovenbirds, which nest on the steep rocky slopes along the trail. Turn north on the AT (switchbacks downhill) to reach the Ned Anderson Bridge and Bull's Bridge Road.

Total round trip is 5 miles and would take approximately four hours to complete, depending on the group.

Note: This hike is for intermediate hikers. A map of the trail can be found here: http://www.naromi.org/clientimages/52077/maps/herrick_102312_sm.pdf
