DANCING CITY: Let Dancing City take you on an afternoon's journey across the parks, piazzas, open spaces and waterfronts of Canary Wharf as Greenwich+Docklands International Festival’s annual outdoor dance extravaganza returns. Encounter exquisite choreography, electrifying moves and the best of contemporary, classical and al fresco dances from some of the very best UK and international dance companies. This annual celebration of dance is an exciting programme of outstanding outdoor performances, showcasing the very best talent set amidst the glittering backdrop of Canary Wharf.

On the way you’ll encounter extraordinary young talent presented by Sadler’s Wells and Big Dance, exquisite Sufi whirling dervish choreography, exhilarating urban moves from France, contemporary dance from Candoco, Britain’s leading company of disabled and non-disabled dancers and a rare outdoor performance from English National Ballet.

Enjoy full performances and bite sized al fresco dance treats from some of the very best UK and international dance companies and artists on a Saturday dedicated to dance at Canary Wharf.

Solo 2 by Brodas Bros: A duet from the Catalan dance company combining contemporary dance with the skills and language of street dance, hip hop and snowboarding to create an exploration of the qualities of balance and harmony. 2.10pm & 5.30pm / Jubilee Plaza

Haka Day Out by Corey Baker Dance: Celebrating the Rugby World Cup this performance presents the dense and mesmerising native Māori performing art (kapa haka) through a medley of tribal footwork, weaponry dancing, native Poi dancing with powerful chanting and singing all woven together with contemporary movement. 2pm & 3.30pm / Westferry Circus

Te Odiero by HURyCAN: An award winning duet from the Spanish dance company exploring the boundaries in relationships and how one slip can become a dangerous pattern. Fast, frantic, funny and poignant with glimpses of tange, flamenco and jazz, the performance delivers surprise and shock in equal measure. 2.40pm & 4.45pm / Jubilee Plaza

Every Grain by Sole Rebel Tap: An exuberant tap dance extravaganza with a cast of glamorous dancers performing to a soundtrack of contagious popular music from the 1950’s. 1.40pm & 3.35pm / Cubitt Steps

Of Man and Beast by Company Chameleon: A powerful, sensitive and revealing look at group dynamics uncovering the many faces of man – strength, camaraderie, vulnerability and hostility. 5 exceptional male performers showcase the company’s inventive and unique physical style. 1pm & 4pm / Jubilee Plaza

Bar Story by Etta Ermini Dance Company: High energy dance and acrobatics combine with insightful observation, humour and wit in this entertaining take on social behaviour. 4.40pm / Wren Landing

Danger of Risk Falling by Parkour Dance: A new Parkour based contemporary dance performance on a bespoke scaffolding structure created by a team of professional artists inspired by the philosophy of Parkour. 2.10pm & 4.35pm / Montgomery Square

Caida Libre (Free Fall) by Sharon Fridman Dance Company: A powerful new powerful performance by a company of leading European dancers. 1pm & 4.40pmM / Canary Riverside

Turn Around Boy by Le Grand Jete: A beautiful duet by two male performers who acrobatically interact with a traditional circus wheel, a reinterpretation of the traditional Icarus myth. 1.45pm & 3.05pm / Jubilee Plaza

5 Soldiers by Rosie Kay Dance: A moving exploration revealing a powerful and sensitive look at masculinity 1.35pm & 4.05pm / Canary Riverside

We will meet first in the Ledger Building Pub (in one of the rooms on the left) and use it as a base for the day. Events are happening throughout the day (see above for timings). There will be regular meetup times in the pub throughout the day (2.00pm and 4.00pm ) to help you re-establish contact with the group. However most likely there will always be someone around in the pub at all times!
