The Winter of our Disconnect. . .

Well many folks across the state have breathed a big fat sigh of relief.

Elections are over. Obama won. Here we sit facing a political dry season right?

The Washington State legislature is working right now on a bill to further obscure ballot access for minor parties (even WITH the top two forward debacle) and we have brought our struggle to protect freedom of association all the way to the Supreme Court and are hoping to finish this year with the legal struggle (more details to come).

At some point the actions of our representatives should really be considered 'in kind contributions' to the Republicans and Democrats, because each step of the way it is easier to get into office due to the choice of letter next to your name and not the values next to your platform.

Please come to the 2009 LPWA Convention on March 28th and take part in the continued growth of party activists and comrades in Liberty.

Krist Novoselic from Fair Vote and, um, Nirvana will be there and as a Democrat he has worked VERY hard for ballot access for third parties. He spends as much time studying and promoting our cause as any other Libertarian Party member that has worked on this. Oh, Speaking of which, be sure to thank Richard Shepard, Kelly Haughton, and any of our activists that have worked tirelessly to make it easier for any of you to step up to the plate and run for office.

Which brings me to the theme of the 2009 Washington State Libertarian Party Convention.

CANDIDATE SUPPORT. From the meetup to the ballot.

Why should a candidate have to go out and explain what it means to be a Libertarian every time they run for office? The state party must lay that foundation with great outreach and activism which should precede candidates stepping onto the ballot. Please help us with this critical task (email me the skills you'd like to offer for this endeavour).

We have many new tools for both party events and candidate support. This would be a great opportunity for anyone interested in running for office to gather both volunteer and financial support. The more serious your bid for support, the more excitement your campaign will get.

Thanks for all your support and please make sure you RSVP here once you purchase your tickets here:

Thanks for ALL you do for Liberty,
