Join Ladies That UX Detroit and Detroit User Experience (https://www.meetup.com/Detroit-User-Experience/) for Detroit's annual World Usability Day, now in its tenth year being celebrated in countries around the world. It's an inclusive event, intended for people to come together to learn about and discuss how usability affects our daily lives in the products and services we use.

This year we will enjoy two talks that explore how emerging technologies can enhance engagement within our families and our communities:

Engaging Children - Getting Them Excited about the Potty Training Process

This year, we released a mobile app for Pull-Ups created to actively involve children in their own potty training success. Throughout the use of the app, we made very deliberate decisions about when and how to involve the child, encouraging them to anticipate and ultimately look forward to their upcoming potty breaks.

Stop Broadcasting! What Detroit is doing to pay attention online.

On the internet, most governments are pushing out the information they want their constituents to know, instead of paying attention to what their constituents want to know about their city. A few early adopters are figuring out that serving their constituents the information when they want it, how they want it, and when they want it makes good sense. The city of Detroit wants to join that league of early adopters, and has an aggressive plan to better serve our citizens online.

About David

David Lingholm is the Director of Digital Media and Community Engagement for the City of Detroit. A new person with a newly created role within city government, he has been tasked with making sure the city is responsive to citizens online, regardless of medium. Prior to joining the city, he guided two Blue Cross Blue Shield blogs through significant reinventions, meeting the needs of internal stakeholders while making sure the content was interesting enough to the general public to double traffic year over year. He's also resurrected projects like Dig Downtown Detroit, and helped the Detroit Regional News Hub grow into a trusted source for news about the city for journalists around the world.

Lingholm holds a Masters in Training and Development from Oakland University, lives in Detroit with his wife and daughter, enjoys long walks in the neighborhood with his dog, and won't stop talking about the good that is happening in Southeast Michigan.
