Details
http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/5/f/8/event_188018392.jpegThis is a WINTER Backpacking trip. That means, We will do snowshoeing with heavy backpack and camp over night over the snow/cold ground. This is NOT a beginner hikers/backpackers trip.
This trip will be a good pre-acclimatization & gear test for Winter Mountaineering to Mt.Charleston, Mt.Whitney, Mt Rainier etc... The camp spot is about 9,800 ft. Its about same elevation as Raintree or Mummy Springs.
I have no idea how much snow are still left on this weekend, but give it a try.
Trip schedule...
1st Day (Dec.22nd Saturday) Meet at RTC Park & Ride Lot 1 on 10AM. Then Drive up to North Loop Trail head. We may able to start hiking by 11AM. We follow the North Loop Trail. Actually, the trail is under the snow and we will break our own trail. We will take a lunch break on the way. The hike to our camp spot is about 2 mile and 1,600 ft of elevation gain. After we set up the tent, we will take a short hike to the Fletcher Peak. Its only half mile and 400 ft of elevation gain from camp spot.
2nd Day (Dec.23rd Sunday) Day Hike to the Mummy's Toe. Its only 1.5 miles and 1,200 ft elevation gain. But, the route is very steep and it will takes about 2.5 - 3 hours.
