Women working professionally

Details

Over the last year, we've hosted a number of events ranging from tech recruiters, content strategists, senior UX designers and students. Since we began, our topics have been focused on the user experience design side of things.

This month we would like to bring our discussion to the one thing we all have in common: we're women and we're professionals.

To help guide our discussion, we've found three women who vary in education, experiences and professions.

Jindi Mehat will kick off the night with a presentation that she originally created at her own workplace. Joining her in an open panel will be Ashely Pitre and Krista Marshall.

Bios:

Jindi Mehat is a feminist activist and writer who is based in East Vancouver. With 8 years of IT experience, she has spent the last 5 years managing website development projects for autoTRADER.ca, Expedia CruiseshipCenters and Yellow Pencil.

She has created a presentation that will cover:

  • different types of workplace sexism
  • ground-level impacts on women
  • big-picture impacts on the industry
  • how men can contribute to solutions

Ashley Pitre is a UX designer and a musician. Like the music industry, tech can also be massively male dominated. Having navigated both worlds, Ashley is joining our panel to share her experiences and provide insight.

Krista Marshall is the Manager of Glory Juice Co.’s Food Commissary, while completing her Interdisciplinary BA at UBC with a focus on Gender and Sexuality. Some of her experience includes; sitting on a student advisory committee, in partnership with Langara College and MOSAIC, to make recommendations to the VPD sex crimes unit to provide better support for survivors of Sexual Assault. She participated in a seminar which investigated Sexualized Violence on Campus’s at UBC, to provide recommendations to the Dean(s). She also worked with an advisory committee for Translink BC to target gender-based violence on transit.

All women welcome
