Language Connection is a not for profit organisation that runs events for people learning languages. This includes language exchanges, conferences, workshops and parties. We run weekly events where native speakers from different languages come together and have conversations half in their first langauge, half in their second language. For example, if you are a native speaker of Mandarin, and you want to improve your English, you can exchange with a local Australian who is learning Mandarin. You teach me English, I'll teach you Mandarin.

We have multiple tables so that everyone can improve their level. There is tea and coffee, sometimes food at our events, and it is very supportive and it is easy to make native speaker friends. From our events you will:

  • Speak more of your second language
  • Teach others how to speak your first language
  • Make new friends
  • Get tea, coffee and food
  • Improve your conversational ability
  • Feel more confident
  • Understand more about foreign cultures

The events cost a small fee which is used to keep the organisation going. Events cost money and we haven't gotten any funding yet from the government or grants - but we hope to in the future. Ideally we'd like to run the event for free, but unfortunately there are no free lunches.

Langauge Connection Melbourne was previously The Melbourne Mandarin and English Group, The Melbourne Korean and English Group and the Melbourne Japanese and English Group. We are considering offering more langauges in the future :)
