Do you have any background in meditation?

Yes. I have been meditating for the past 38 years. However, I am not a kriya yogi.

How would you like to participate in this meet up?

I wish to be informed about upcoming events so I can attend as many of them as possible.

Have you ever read the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramhansa Yogananda?

Yes.

Do you have any questions for us?

No.

Introduction

I first went to this group in search of a particular book by Yoganandaji. Later, I attended a kirtan and loved it. I have been atttending the kirtans since 2003. When I can, I also try to attend some of the other events and Sunday service.

What Aloka is saying about this Meetup Group

What we are seeking is within us. We can sit at home and practice and we need not go anywhere. Unfortunately, the world pulls us away from what is within us and we often need a little push. Some of us need a lot of help, others need a slight push, and still others need a simple reminder. When one goes to any Dharma sangha, one gets the help needed to turn inwards. This may be just momentary. We turn inwards during the service and then step out and the world pulls us outwards again. However, there is that memory--that taste--which we cherish. Through the trials and tribulations of the week, we know that there is a place we can go to where, with a little help from our Dharma friends, we will once again taste the bliss of the spiritual path. Moreover, the energy one can experience in any congregational gathering is extremely powerful and reassuring. Finally, practicing with others keeps us anchored and reminds us of the true reason why we are here.
