Toad Pool Canyon...

Toad Pool Canyon...

Details

Toad Pool is a nice 2-3 hour canyon (depending on group size) off of the the first pull-out in the Red Rock loop...

It's a nice beginner canyon for those that would like to do a quick scenic canyon or for those that haven't done it before... There are 3 nice rappels and a sweet slot to practice stemming through, along with a nice scramble to the canyon entrance...

There's typically some water in the pools off the second and third rappels... Depending on weather it could be ankle to neck deep, hence "Toad Pool", although, all rappels can be bypassed... The second and third rappels are at the end of the canyon and about 10min. from the parking lot, so getting wet isn't too bad if need be... Please bring appropriate attire for the canyon...

We'll meet in the Albertsons parking lot at 8am and carpool from there...

Take Charleston Rd out to Red Rock Park Scenic Loop. The very first pull out on the right is the trailhead.

Approach
Follow the well worn path down and then scramble up the rocks up a semi-canyon that is the easiest spot to climb up. Once the rock you are scrambling is no longer white but now red, work your way Right to the east about 100 yards. As you look down, you will see the canyon with what looks like big cracks in the rock mountain and a short jount west at the bottom. This is the canyon and the cracks are the narrows.

Description
This starts with a rap down a large Choke Stone then a short piece of bush wacking, awesome narrows (careful if you have a pack), belayed DC, more narrows (go right), a rappel through a squeeze and into a toad pool, and one final rap to the main drainage into another toad pool. 3 raps in all and you will probably get wet up to you knees (or at least the 1st guy) great little canyon. I try to keep this canyon hidden so please try to Ghost or remove the anchors since so many tourists visit this area. Fantastic canyon!

Exit
The last Rap puts you at the bottom drainage where you can see the parking lot.
