Mercedes Yardley provided a wealth of information, including very useful tips on finding a small press. I thoroughly enjoyed the talk and even received my own personalized story when I bought her book.

Forgot to mention that the Library district does 'Author Book Signing" at various libraries and any author can participate, as long as they sign up early. The last one was held at Clark County Library on 1401 W. Flamingo Rd in April and the person in charge is Ms. Julie Okabayashi [masked]) who is the most helpful person I have met in the library district. The correct website address is www.lvccld.org
You cannot underestimate the libraries. Most of the authors I have met were at one of the library districts and the ones I frequent are the West Charlston, Sahara West, Clark County Library and Summerlin libarary.

You should get in free, if you bring a freshly smashed smartphone.

Mercedes was great. She told us all about not looking like a dwebe when stalking, er I mean researching, possible contacts on line.

Picked up few ideas for promoting a book. As far as selling to the library district, I helped my friend Arlene Smith with her book 'The Family Miracles" do just that. You log on to www.lvccld.com and deal with the main office on Warm Springs. You have to complete application sent to you. It takes a few months before you get an answer but it is worth it. If they do chose to buy your book they will let you arrange book signing and promotion in all the libraries and also put your book on line.

Whimsical horror is not my forte in reading or writing. But I will attend since it is a writers meeting and do not want to judge a book by the cover !!

If you haven't read Mercedes' work, I highly recommend it. Usually, reading short stories is akin to eating brussel sprouts for me. Mercedes turns it into something whimsical & decadent, more like flourless chocolate cake, but with a dark center.

I have to cancel my RSVP. We had a family issue come up and a family member of mine is in the hospital. I am hoping that I can make the meeting in June. Very bummed, I would have liked to meet Mercedes. I bought her book and I really like it.

    May 13, 2013

    • Mercedes

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope your family member is all right! We'll meet soon. I'm trying to change my schedule so I can come to more LVWG meetings. :)

At present, I am still information-gathering on a fact-finding mission and have no position paper ready to release nor any statement to make at this time.

Mason - Your files have been classified. Stand down; hold yourself incommunicado. Instead of posts, write it down then eat it, lest it all into enemy hands. Code phrase you're reactivated is: "20 naked men jumping on pogo sticks."

      May 11, 2013

    • Mercedes

That's an unfortunate code phrase. We use it in casual conversation at least five or six times a day. Poor Mason will have fits.

Loved coming to the meetup meeting for two months. Make at my home in Utah. You are all total quality, thank you. Has anyone seen my journey and an orange book on Indian mysticism that I left at the last meeting. If you read my journey, well you would be surprised.

I agree with Judith that there are viable opportunities. For one thing, the "big boys in New York" no longer have a stranglehold on publishing. A friend put me in touch with her brother-in-law who is an editor and after he edited my book, said his company would be interested in publishing it. There are independent, good publishers out there and I was thrilled to find one who liked what he saw and was willing to work with me. (And I would compare my stack of rejection slips with your stack of rejection slips except that I've burned them. So there!) Do Not Give Up!!
