Fiction Read - The Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler

The plot concerns the marriage of Michael Anton and Pauline Barclay, who meet when he tends to her bloodied brow in his family's grocery store, located in a primarily Eastern European conclave in Baltimore, in December 1941. They marry after Michael is discharged from the Army with a permanent injury caused by a deliberate shot from someone he assaulted. Michael and Pauline settle in a small apartment above the store, but their widely different temperaments and expectations quickly create dissension in the relationship. He is repressed, controlling, and quiet; she is loud, emotional, and romantic. At Pauline's insistence, they move to the suburbs, where they raise three children: Lindy, George and Karen.

Hello Peeps ( who has just thought 'I hate it when people use the word peeps'?!)

I'm tidying my bookcase to make room for my reading list of 2014 courtesy of presents and book tokens. They are:

The Lover's Dictionary - David Leviathan
Never Far From Nowhere - Andrea Levy
The Rosie Project - Graeme Simsion
    The Quarry - Iain Banks
    The Goldfinch - Donna Tartt
The Flame Alphabet - Ben Marcus
The Little Friend - Donna Tartt
The Luminaries - Eleanor Catton - 807 pages - I may have to miss a few meetings to fit it in. Who just said 'Yeah'?!
    Marriage Material -Satham Sanghera
The Husband's Secret - Liane Moriarty

So what's on your reading list for 2014?

Oh I bought Saints Of The Shadow Bible the latest Rebus by Ian Rankin by mistake - anyone who wants it I will bring it to the next meeting.

I also have 2 copies of A Passage To India - not sure why - again if someone wants a copy I can bring it along. Both the Rankin & Forster are hardbacks. No takers - charity shop beckons!

John, maybe we change the next Saturday event into a book exchange, there are bound to be a few people with excess Christmas reading?
