Liberal Arts Grads/Students/nontech professional who want to learn a new skill? Comp Sci student or professional who wants to read the texts that comment on the meanings of what we are creating?
A book club and peer mentorship society for those who want to learn either:
a) a new computer programming language (most likely Ruby).
b) The classic and current texts of why coding, computers, and the internet matter so much in our society- such as Foucault, Plato, and Siva Vaidyanathan (among others).
People who are inquisitive, and want to instigate change in many industries through this cross-learning experiment- reply.
Our Point-
We meet twice a week
Once to go over coding projects (from complete newbie to advanced)
And the second time to ask the essentials questions about why we code through a book club. Such as;
What is the pupose of a twitter storm
Do I really want to support everything about copyleft?
Am I stuck in the Panopticon? Or are we doing something different?
Hope to see you soon! (Meetup location in manhattan/brooklyn and books to be decided by members...its a coding group and book club)
We meet twice a week
A) we go over coding projects one day
This is the process of trying to figure out why we have bugs, what makes for a good algorithm, how a language works for newbies. And be friendly and supportive to all.
B) The other day
we go through a book about media as we deal with it today. Read more
