Build an unsolicited advice splurting web application

Think user generated data, pop-up modals, validations and the best-looking-fonts-ever, all wrapped in an awesome looking mobile first web application.

We developed a virtual online class giving you step-by-step guidance on coding over ten advanced features into one awesome web application called Splurty.

Write some code, learn something new and build an awesome unsolicited advice generator web app.

Plus, you'll be able to customize your web application to your interests.  Here's a few examples to get you thinking:

• You know you're an urban planner when...

• Startup Advice that doesn't suck...

• Or even just a place for people to vent (think of the viral site - or you could go the other way and let people share things that make them happy...

Still on the fence? Here's a quick sneak peak at our syllabus.

Check out the live Splurty App and get a better understanding of what we're building in this class together

Class Details:

Start Date: June 28th, 2014
Duration: 1 Morning & Afternoon
Time commitment: 6 - 8 Hours

What you learn:
We're using the same tools as the best startups in the country to build our web application. Meaning, you will learn Ruby on Rails, Git, GitHub, Heroku, HTML, CSS3 and Mobile First Design using Twitter Bootstrap 3. You don't need to have any prior coding experience - we'll get you up to speed!

Get your coding mojo on, kick up your skills and build something cool together with your Firehose Team.

Hi, this sounds interesting. I'm currently going through Hartl's tutorial. Will this go above and beyond what's in there? The example app looks somewhat similar. Thanks.

      Hi Jeff,

We're covering the steps to build a web application from the very ground up, wrap it into a mobile first design and ship it live on the internet.

If you want to push your coding skills way beyond what the Hartl tutorial covers, I suggest taking a look at our "Hello Nomster - Build a Yelp clone with advanced features" class.

I'll send you a message with more details, ok.

What virtual classroom software are you planning to use? I'd like to be sure my system meets technical requirements. Thanks!

      Hi Robert,

We're using Google Hangout, a forum and screenhero in case we need to remotely access a particular computer.

So pretty straightforward software that doesn't require specific technical requirements :)

What framework(s) are we talking about, here?

      Hi Jesse,

We're using Ruby on Rails for the back-end and Twitter Bootstrap 3 for a mobile first front-end.
