Data Visualization - Hands on Lab


In this lab we will explore how to visualize data related to Item Response Theory (IRT).  The format for the meeting will be the following


7:00-7:15 arrival

7:15-7:45 Data Visualization - Hjalmar Gislason

7:45-8:00 (TBD Industry Practitioner or Lab Prep)

8:00-8:50 Lab

8:50-9:00 Announcements & Informal Chat


Lab Details:


1. Optionally Install RStudio (

2. Required download template html file for exercise

3. Optionally download intermediate steps of lab


Theory:  Item Response Theory

Technology:  RStudio & D3

Data Set:  LSAT Question Data from ltm package from R

0. Overview of Item Response Theory

1. Generate Response Matrix in RStudio

2. Use Response Matrix to populate a html table with D3

3. Modify Content of table based on response matrix content

    It was excellent, both lecture and hands on exercises were great. I really liked the hands on exercises. It was a gentle entry to R, D3 and Response Theory. I hope to see more similar meetups soon.
