I'm a native New Yorker--grew up in Brooklyn and Long Island--and now live on the Upper East Side. I work in midtown for a PR firm and spent 11 years as a journalist before that.
I'm first generation Italian so I grew up hearing Italian spoken by my grandparents, parents, and aunts and uncles. I didn't formally start studying until middle school, and then studied in high school (along with Spanish) and then minored in Italian in college.
My family has a house in Italy so I've probably been there about 10 times in my life. I still have a lot of relatives there so it's a good opportunity to practice. I'm going there this summer and would love to have improved my Italian by then.
4--I'm fairly fluent, but because I'm a bit of out practice I sometimes forget proper verb conjugation and have to search for words.
I'm going to Italy this year with my family and would like to be able to more easily converse.
It was great meeting you last night! I look forward to seeing you again! P
how are you?
