I'm a native New Yorker--grew up in Brooklyn and Long Island--and now live on the Upper East Side. I work in midtown for a PR firm and spent 11 years as a journalist before that.

Where did you learn your italian, at home through your family or at school?

I'm first generation Italian so I grew up hearing Italian spoken by my grandparents, parents, and aunts and uncles. I didn't formally start studying until middle school, and then studied in high school (along with Spanish) and then minored in Italian in college.

Have you been yet to Italy to practice using your conversation skills? If so, how often do you get to Italy to practice ?

My family has a house in Italy so I've probably been there about 10 times in my life. I still have a lot of relatives there so it's a good opportunity to practice. I'm going there this summer and would love to have improved my Italian by then.

In terms of command of italian, where would you place yourself on a scale of 1 - 5, 5 = fluent but need to keep it up; 3 not yet fluent but willing to dive in; 1 - familiar with the grammar but afrd to speak

4--I'm fairly fluent, but because I'm a bit of out practice I sometimes forget proper verb conjugation and have to search for words.

Can you please include a photo of yourself and let us know what field you are in and why you would like to improve your italian.?

I'm going to Italy this year with my family and would like to be able to more easily converse.

I am unable to speak
