Vince Orr - Reactive functions with RxJS
Details
Howdy Javascripters!
The end of June is on the way and it brings this month's meet-up with it!
First up will be the entries for the challenge we set last month. Each entrant will get a couple of minutes to demonstrate something cool they've done with Web Components. We have some Google goody bags so enter to be in with a chance!
For the main talk this month Vince Orr is going to be telling us all about RxJS (http://reactivex.io/) and showing off some of the work he's been doing with RxJS and React. It sounds like a fantastic topic and we're really looking forward to this one!
Vince wrote a brief intro for us:
"RxJS is an asynchronous and event-based library using observable sequences. On a modern JS frontend UI you are going to deal with multiple Async actions. Think of an auto complete search box, you need to catch the keys being pressed sending out ajax/http request then stopping those request if new keys are pressed, display the results and you only want to send out ajax/http request with a 500ms delay on our key presses so you don’t keep sending out requests?
What if I was to say to you that all of these requirements can be written in under 40 lines of code!!"
Vince is a JavaScript developer at Label Media and has been using JavaScript properly for about 7 months, starting his journey in vanilla JavaScript and working his way to functional programming and libraries like RxJS and incorporating it with React.js in search of creating JavaScript apps/websites. You can follow him on twitter at @cmdv (https://twitter.com/cmdv)
As ever there will be food and drink beforehand. We hope to see you there at 6:45 for a brief chat before we start the challenge demos and the main talk. Most people show up early to have a drink, network and talk about all things JavaScript beforehand.
Please note the group is intended for developers looking to expand their knowledge in a recruiter free zone. Whilst interest from recruitment consultants is nice we have a no recruiters policy.
This event is covered by our code of conduct, which is available here: http://leedsjs.com/code-of-conduct/
