Gap Gallop - PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY- NO DAY OF REGISTRATION

After nearly 40 years, the Lehigh Wheelmen decided to make a change and introduce a
new start location and an exciting new route for the traditional Gap Gallop. This year's
route will start at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA. This scenic and challenging
bicycle century will take you from the heart of the Lehigh Valley to the shores of
the Delaware River where we will cross into New Jersey. Following the river north, the
ride will pass through Phillipsburg, NJ to the first of 4 rests stops all stocked with great
food and beverages to keep you fueled.

After the first rest stop just north of Phillipsburg, the route will climb out of the river
valley to a height of land with fantastic views of the valley below. Our second rest stop
is near Belvidere, NJ. On the way there you'll have the option to challenge your heart, lungs and legs with a climb of the famous, or infamous, Fiddler's Elbow (530 feet to 1150 feet in 1.6 miles). We'll be waiting at the top with a token to remember your achievement. You will have earned it!

The route will continue north on some glorious, quiet country roads to Columbia, NJ where we will cross the Delaware on a pedestrian bridge to Portland, PA. Here is a fantastic up- river view of the Water Gap, a beautiful photo-op.

Then we turn south, following the river along a great shaded road to the next rest stop at Driftstone Campground. Our route will cross back into NJ at Belvidere, a very pretty Victorian town, then continue back to the rest stop in Phillipsburg. One more crossing of the Delaware will take us through Easton, PA and then along the Lehigh River. The Boston Marathon has it's "Heart Break Hill". The Gap Gallop throws one more big climb at you before the reward of having finished the 2103 Gap Gallop.

Unlike past years, there will be NO DAY OF REGISTRATION. Registration closes Sept 8. Registrations received by August 18 will receive a special Gap Gallop tee shirt. There is an option to buy a post ride meal provided by the fine folks at DeSales University.
