Truth, Bayes and Rationality

On Saturday, February 5th at 3 PM, come join us for an introduction to the fundamental concepts of rationality!

Andrew Rettek has gratefully decided to present the ideas contained within the Less Wrong sequences, a series of essays by Eliezer Yudkowsky on the topic of rationality.  We will begin with the first sequence titled "Map and Territory," located here:

http://wiki.lesswrong.com/wiki/Map_and_Territory_%28sequence%29

"A collection of posts dealing with the fundamentals of rationality: the difference between the map and the territory, Bayes's Theorem and the nature of evidence, why anyone should care about truth, and minds as reflective cognitive engines. "

The presentation will be held at the Houston Street Center, located at 273 Bowery on the corner of Houston.  We will be located in classroom 4, ask for the Less Wrong NYC meetup.  Doors open at 2:30, with the presentation to begin promptly at 3.  We have the space until 5:30, at which point we will move to the upstairs seating area nearby Whole Foods to eat and continue discussion, feel free to join us at any point.  If you can't find us, my number is[masked]-6449.

I look forward to seeing all of you there!

Will

I enjoyed listening to the talk and the following discussion brought up great points as well. It was nice to watch the new and old members interact in discussion with enthusiasm.

Excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Andrew gave a succinct presentation on essential Less Wrong topics. The crowd was active and engaged. Friendly conversations quickly grew amongst the guests once Andrew concluded his Q&A.
