If we don't take responsibility for Leucadia,
others will.

So far, we haven’t, they have, and the results aren’t good.

Beacon’s Beach is deteriorating - and the city transferred state funds earmarked for Beacon’s improvement to a Moonlight Beach project.

Massive Streetscape Highway 101 shopping center project will transform Leucadia into a typical, oceanfront suburb. The project replicates a design that’s been used in 1000 other cities to rehabilitate commercial slums. The needs of pedestrians, surfers, bicyclists, families, youth and residents in the adjacent neighborhoods were ignored.

$20 million of our taxes will be spent on a “beautification” project no one asked for - in the midst of a recession. And - it doesn’t “beautify.”

Traffic congestion. The city’s plans to close one northbound lane of Leucadia’s Hwy. 100 and construct 5 circular traffic obstructions along the route will transform Leucadia’s main throughway into a congested shopping center parking lot.

Community Gardens. A valiant community gardens effort was turned down by the city.

Leucadia Post Office. We’re likely to lose our town post office unless we rally to stop its closing.

Green It Up! Do you want Leucadia to be a model of ecology-forward, sustainable living?

Values. Do you want Leucadia to be a friendly, progressive, healthy, neighborhood-oriented town that prefers amicable conflict-resolution over conflict; and cooperation over divisiveness? Do you want to see our unique diversity, creativity and individuality flourish?

We’re all far too busy with our personal responsibilities and passions to get involved. But a town full of bright, informed, experienced, accomplished, creative and decent people should be able to get-together and figure out how to protect and preserve our way of life without it becoming a burden on anyone. Might even be fun!!

"I lived in Leucadia when I first moved to SD 4 years ago and it's my favorite place in North County. I love the uniqueness of it and I don't want to see it get commercialized. Also, I'm in need of a community garden in North County, any ideas?"
