Democracies, Republics, and Other Unnecessary Evils

This is an informal drinks event to to discuss Libertarian theories, recent news and events in general, the state of libertarianism in all the relevant parties and in the culture generally.

To get us started we will be joined by Jan Lester, a published author and associate of the Libertarian Alliance who will explain the problems of democracy, and republics and suggest an alternative approach to these and other political ideas that most people would assume are fundamental.

We will be upstairs, in the function room, ask the landlady where we are if you can't find us or follow @LibertarianHome on twitter and hashtag #libhome.

Drinks begin from about 7, though regulars often arrive earlier for their convenience and tend to gather downstairs.

The talk will take place from about 8.00 to 9.00.

Hugely entertaining evening, with a room full of minds firing on all cylinders. As a firm believer in the need to find practical solutions to well-defined problems, I heard a lot of argumentum ad vericundiam with little interest in the application of Libertarian thinking to our current environment

Not a single 'Ron Paul for President' lapel badge in sight!

Do you have an example of argumentum ad verecundiam from the talk?

What is more practical in the long term than explaining the correct political theory?

Was nice meeting like minded people. Was good to see high turn out. I enjoyed the conversations and the guest speaker. Thought provoking indeed. I didn't get the opportunity to meet everyone or get people's contact details with whom i spoke with. Am researching for a doco and keen to meet up to further discuss the ideologies of libertarianism and your opinions on current affairs, civil rights and freedom.

Feel free to contact me if you're interested in meeting up before the next meeting. Maria

P.s Leo, is it a prerequisite for Ron Paul supporters to wear badges identifying them as such?
