Left, Right Should Unite Behind Gov. Gary Johnson

(Forward this as widely as possible before Tuesday morning.)

There is a left-wing case to be made against voting for Obama.     There is a right-wing case to be made against voting for Romney.    And there is both a left-wing case and a right-wing case to be made for voting for Gov. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian nominee.

Why should those on the Left reject Mr. Obama?

* His policies benefit the mega-corporations and the big banks, while being harsh on the poor, Labor, and the middle class.    Under Mr. Obama, household income has gone down for 80% of Americans, while JPMorganChase is doing better than ever.     Goldman Sachs, a firm with several representatives in the Obama Administration, has also benefited from Mr. Obama's redistribution of wealth from Man Street to Wall Street.   Meanwhile, health insurance premiums have gone up $3K a year since Mr. Obama's health care takeover, when we were promised they would drop by $2K a year.

* He has shown contempt for civil liberties.    The extension of the un-Patriotic Act bears his signature, as does the NDAA.    He has claimed the authority to not merely have Americans indefinitely detained on his say-so alone, as Bush 2 did, but also to have Americans assassinated on his say-so alone.

* He has continued the interventionist foreign policy that has come to grief time and time again.    His escalation of the American involvement in Afghanistan has turned Bush's war into his own.    His violation of the War Powers Act in the Middle East has shown an attitude even Alexander Hamilton would have rejected as monarchical.

Recession, repression, and war.    Three strikes that should have leftists calling Mr. Obama "out".

Why should those on the Right reject Mr. Romney?

* He has a record of supporting big, powerful, intrusive government.    Remember that Mr. Obama's blueprint for the Federal power-grab in health care was Mr. Romney's plan.    Mr. Romney has also been supportive of the bailouts and the "stimulus" packages -- which stimulated unemployment to nearly 10% before the end of Bush-Obama "stimulus" paroxysm allowed the rate to fall slightly.

* Mr. Romney, too, has supported the repressive legislation cited above.    And when Uncle Sam decides to make extensive use of those un-Constitutional provisions, you can be certain it will be advocates of small/limited government that will be targeted.  Before you dismiss that as alarming, remember that even the hopelessly Establishment Houston Chronicle   reported a few years back that the FBI had sent warnings to its 57 field offices that individuals carrying copies of the U. S. Constitution in their pockets were likely to be terrorists.

* As is always the case (going back to at least Thucydides), the warfare state and the welfare state go iron fist in mailed glove.   Mr. Romney's foreign policy would be no less aggressive than Mr. Obama's, and that will mean even more intrusion by Uncle Sam into the economy.

More Federal interference in the free market, assertion of un-Constitutional authority that will likely be aimed at limited-government activists; a foreign policy that will enhance domestic Big Government.   Three strikes that should have rightists sending Mr. Romney back to the dugout.

Why should both Left and Right support Gov. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian nominee?

* Gov. Johnson supports a level economic playing field, which he would work toward by forming issue-by-issue coalitions with Senators and Representatives of all three parties to  eliminate favoritism toward Big Business and the repeal of Federal statutes and regulations that restrict competition and hamper job creation.    More competition for customers, thus forcing prices down; more competition for employees, thus forcing wages up.

* Gov. Johnson respects The Bill Of Rights -- all of it.    No indefinite detention; no abridgements of free speech; no overriding State de-criminalization of marijuana .... Gov. Johnson will obey the limits placed on Uncle Sam by The Bill Of Rights.

* Gov. Johnson advocates a drastically reduced U. S. Government presence abroad.   No un-Constitutional wars.  This will make America stronger, not weaker, and end the transfer of wealth from the poor, from Labor, and from the middle class to the giant "defense" contractors.

Support for a truly free market, thus reducing the massive gap in income and wealth between rich and poor; respect for your Rights and mine; a sensible foreign policy: a compelling case for Americans across the spectrum to vote for Libertarian nominee for president, Gov. Gary Johnson.
