Finally, the recommendation system meetup that we have all been waiting for is coming to live!

As for speakers, we'll have the following:

1. João Ascensão - Machine Learning + Artificial Intelligence

Uniplaces is an online marketplace for student accommodation. João Ascensão is going to walk us through of how to use large data sets against recommender algorithms to increase user retention rate.

2. Sam Hopkins - Benchmarking data manipulation libraries

Given the real-world data manipulation needs of CrowdProcess, see how we are going about selecting our mission-critical software infrastructure based upon performance. We are currently looking at node.js, pandas, and SFrame.

Important notice: There have been a number of people who have RSVP'd positively, and have repeatedly either cancelled last second or not shown up. This has lead to people who could have shown up being turned away.

To avoid this, we shall from now on be implementing a new policy by which cancellations must occur at least 24 hours before the event. Anyone who reserves a place and does not use it will unfortunately have to be turned down from later events.

While we understand that sometimes "life just happens", we must do our best to guarantee that those who are interested get a seat. We are organizing this for free and on our own time, and want to make sure that everyone has the chance to participate.
