About us
Meet other local fans of jazz, blues, and world music while enjoying live performances by top-notch musicians.
The San Francisco Bay Area is home to an amazing live music scene, with an assortment of venues that provide an intimate and affordable way to experience music as it's meant to be: spontaneous, inventive, and alive.
There's so much music happening in the Bay Area, there is something available every weekend for every taste and budget.
We're mainly about listening to live jazz, but we also post blues shows, as well as tango, flamenco, world music, cross-genre, and beyond. In addition, we occasionally post theater events, films, and even author readings that have a music-related "hook."
Live Jazz (& Blues) Meetup organizers choose events based on what they think they and other members will most enjoy (and what organizers' schedules allow them to attend and host). Organizers are volunteers and do not work for any of the bands or venues listed and are not compensated in any way by them.
Our emphasis is on organizer-hosted events - often with a group meal option before or after a show, so that members have more opportunities to get to know each other.
So join us, and use this Meetup group to connect with other music fans.
Hope to see you at an upcoming event!
Paula M. - Lead Organizer, Live Jazz (& Blues) Meetup Group
[P.S. to musicians and venues: As a lead organizer, I welcome getting messages with information on upcoming gigs, especially if they include audio links, artist bios, and info on seating, so I can more easily determine if a suggested show would be suitable for one of our Meetup events. However, I ask that you refrain from self-promoting on the Discussion page. Thanks!]

Maria Muldaur: Tribute to Blues Artist Victoria Spivey
The Back Room, 1984 Bonita (near University), Berkeley, CA, USTo celebrate her latest Grammy-nominated album, ONE HOUR MAMA: The Blues of Victoria Spivey, Maria Muldaur will appear with stride piano master Neil Fontano in an acoustic performance of bawdy blues and swinging jazz from the '20s & '30s. The album is a tribute to pioneering blues artist and record label owner Victoria Spivey, who was one of Maria's mentors when she was young. I'm posting this concert earlier than usual because this duo's performance at another Bay Area venue last year sold out.
“Maria Muldaur channels blues legend Victoria Spivey with sass, soul & no apologies. One Hour Mama is a bold, bawdy tribute full of trad-jazz swagger, gritty truth, and timeless storytelling.” –Blues Matters Magazine
