IDEA TAB guidelines of use

I appreciate the concept that meetup HQ created this tab. It was a forum to allow members to submit ideas for meetup events and for other members to show their support for a particular idea by voting on the idea.

If you have been paying attention, I have already scheduled many of the ideas submitted as events. I would like to continue to do so.

Unfortunately, it has been highly misused ever since its inception leading many organizers to disengage this function from their groups. I am very close to also removing this function from Lively Friends.

However, before I do so I would like to take the opportunity to educate you all on what is appropriate use of the idea board in the hope that the misuse will not continue.

It is easier to start by what is NOT appropriate:

-Any event pertaining to another meetup group or any kind of group or association
-Any event that already has a date or time associated with it (if its already scheduled, then how can it be an idea?)
-Any event supporting a charitable organization
-Any event where an item is being "sold" or pitched (especially home parties or those items sold or distributed through multi-level marketing organizations)

An "idea" is a concept for a meetup event.

If it's a location outside of the south bay, it is highly likely that I will be NOT be interested no matter how creative, fun or brilliant the idea is. For those of you geographically challenged, this means nothing north of the airport or south of San Pedro.

If you have ANY DOUBT as to whether your idea is appropriate for the idea tab, please email me first before posting. Of course, there are exceptions, so that is why it is best to contact me first.

Continuous misuse of the idea tab only defeats the purpose for which it was created. Each time an idea is posted, it gets emailed to all members that have opted in to receive this email. The more often that members get spammed with ideas not pertaining to the group, the more that members will opt out of this function. That means in time, you will not be reaching people with your idea. Is this really what we all want?

For those of you that have already opted out, please opt back in to receive these emails and let's give it another try. If it doesnt go well, I will just remove the function altogether.

Meanwhile, any violations will result in immediate removal of the idea without explanation. Multiple violations may result in your removal from the group.

I would like to keep the idea tab for the use and benefit of all. Please respect the guidelines I have set forth so I do not have to remove it.
