This meetup group is for nurses (RNs, LPNs) who are interested in fitness and want to network and find support on how to get started working as a Fitness Nurse. Please read our blog at www.fitnessnursingblog.com
Fitness Nursing is about healing first; losing weight second. Most people are so busy and being pulled in so many directions, carrying too heavy loads...it's not until a body part breaks down do they see a doctor and/or nurse in an office or worse...in a hospital.
As nurses, we are advocates for the sick, our patients in the hospital or elsewhere. Why can't we help them to stay out of the hospital, or make their stay not be so critical if they have to be admitted? Why can't we help to reduce their medications, improve their health related numbers through the efficacy of fitness? Well, we can!
Visit www.fitnessnursing.com to read about how nurses, just like you, interested in fitness are starting a grass roots movement. This company, FitnessNursing.com is for those nurses who enjoy exercise and/or have expertise/education in exercise and want to make money working for themselves or expand fitness nursing working for someone else as a Fitness Nurse. We are not personal trainers who happen to be nurses. Actually, I believe that working in a gym or healthclub as a 'fitness nurse' is NOT the best place for us. We are licensed professional nurses with specialized training and skills who have chosen fitness as a way to heal our clients/patients, physically and mentally. We want to and should utilize our experience in healthcare to get other healthcare professionals to look to fitness nurses as 'safe, trusted' place they can send/refer their clients/patients. I am creating a business model for fitness nurses to market physician's practices and other healthcare professionals. Working in a conventional gym or club will not give you the respect you deserve. People will see you, the fitness nurse, as someone who only works with 'sick people', they will not want to be the one that utilizes the 'fitness nurse' in a so-called 'healthy' environment, like a health club. Trust me, I've tried for over 25 years!
As nurses, we know the lingo of physicians, the medications, and 'the system' of 'healthcare'. Once someone is diagnosed with a disease or condition, they're scared, afraid and they will usually do what the doctor says, especially when medication is involved. But it's the lifestyle change that got these folks into their dilemma and they need our help to correct the sedentary lifestyle they chose by being fully aware of it or not.
We know that pills will only do temporary good. The underlying cause is crappy, processed foods, immobility and stress...basically. How many people do you know who are discharged from physical therapy and then they stop moving again; only to be back in the hospital or doctor's office. 67 million Americans are pre-diabetic. They can turn it around. Nurses can help them this disease is preventable and curable. This meet-up will focus on using Paleo-inspired eating & exercise as a means to lower blood pressure, reduce waist measurement, improve mood and increase stress resistance, of course, much more benefits, naturally, from getting your client/patient to move. I also need folks to try my Paleo-inspired snacks.
Because I describe myself as a Paleo Fitness Nurse, I will serve Paleo-inspired snacks and focus on standardizing a certification towards this way of moving and eating. This meetup has to serve m mission...which is to help the most people possible who have a metabolic disease, inflammation and want to lose weight.
We'll discuss and network on where and how to specialize on what type of fitness nurse you want to be and the certified fitness nurse. How to approach healthcare establishments and how to get certified in fitness or a specialty exercise certification and becoming a Certified Fitness Nurse.
