No Estimates

There's a growing feeling that estimates are a waste of time. We'll be discussing this concept in this session. tonight in a debate format (following a brief introduction to the ideas).

Please note: you can only book tickets to this session 14 days beforehand

The event will be held in the upstairs room at The Plumbers Arms. The sessions are informal and we are happy for you to eat the pub grub / drink during the meetup (the pies are pretty nice).

The pub's site gives directions:

An energetic and exciting debate, followed by some interesting in-depth conversations. I am giving it 4 instead of 5 as I think the debate detracts slightly from our learning opportunity. It becomes more about winning the debate then discussing both sides of the argument.

You're the 2nd person to say they are not sure about the debate method. One person loves it though. We'll think more about which format might work for each topic. Thanks.

I'm one of the people who enjoy it, but with hindsight perhaps we should use it more sparingly...

Good debate with a lot of input from everyone. Thanks again for making it such an interesting session.

Something has come up last minute. If I can make this at all, it'll be very late. I really wanted to be involved in the discussion too!

Hi, I'm afraid I can't make it tonight. I will make sure I attend the next meetup as estimation is an area in which my team needs to understand and apply properly. Hopefully a brief outcome of this event can be written or filmed? Many thanks!

I'm afraid I cannot make this after all this evening - I'm in Reading with a client until too late.
Please make sure that if you throw away estimation as waste, that you only throw away the estimates, not the 'just in time sharing of tacit knowledge around the team' that is the hidden benefit of estimation. I did a blog on it here if it helps

Thanks for posting that Dan. I agree, the discussion about the requirement is valuable: but as Woody Zuill asks, is estimation the best way of getting this information? Likewise written a post: http://scrumandkanban...
